ALF Young is wrong about the SNP's economic case for independence. First, it is not the SNP which is doom-laden about Scotland's economic position - indeed, we talk up her potential. Rather, it is the three Unionist parties who speak of the disaster that would befall an independent Scotland, telling Scots they are too poor, too small and too stupid to look after their own affairs.
Secondly, nationalists did not lose the argument about whether the benefit of the discovery of North Sea Oil should accrue only to Scotland or to the whole of the UK, because it was never a balanced argument in the first place.
