FROM riding with David Cameron in The Beast to a game of table tennis in a London secondary school, then on to a state banquet hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace, Barack Obama yesterday sought to underscore the monarch's claim that America is Britain's "most important ally".

Today, the US President begins the political part of his three- day state visit with a one-to-one meeting with the Prime Minister in No 10 after the Queen toasted the two countries' relationship at the star-studded banquet.
