US crude prices climbed above $90 a barrel yesterday after the Government reported a drop in American petroleum stockpiles, writes Douglas Hamilton.

Benchmark oil for February delivery rose 66 cents to $90.48 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while North Sea Brent, the European benchmark crude, rose 41cents to $93.61 on the ICE Futures exchange in London.
