NORTH Sea Brent crude hit an all-time high of dollars-52.25a- barrel yesterday - going through its previous record of dollars- 51.94 struck on October 27 - on mounting concerns over supply and a resurgence of speculative buying.

The all-time high flags again the potential dampening impact of high oil prices on economic growth, and was hit on the day that the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply announced an unexpected slowing of UK service sector growth in February.
