One in Five?

Summary


GRAHAME Lawson's letter (September 28) makes worrying reading - from a population of five million, one million Scots are disabled? Is there any other "civilised" nation with such a proportion as one in five so classified?

My more cynical view on this is to question howmany of the million are those who have convinced some bureaucrat of a sufficiently plausible ailment in order then to be able to claim multiple benefits, and to enable abandonment of their cars in disabled spaces, displaying their blue badges, before leaping healthily from their cars to spend their unearned income. A short time spent in Braehead car park provides quite enough evidence.
