I WATCHED Tony Blair adopt the attitude of a shamed penitent as he listened to the strictures delivered in his direction by Mr Keys, whose son was killed in Iraq while serving with the Military Police. That was in the early hours of Friday morning. By Saturday any semblance of penitence was gone.

Despite stating that he was aware of how the electorate felt, that he was listening to what the voters were saying and that he would respond to their criticism, he has treated the citizens of the United Kingdom with the utmost contempt.

Only a Brief Semblance of Penitence

First, he recalled a shamed David Blunkett back into the cabinet a mere five months after he resigned in disgrace. However brilliant the former home secretary was, he was a man of straw.
