HEAVY rough at Turnberry is being cut back for next month's Open Championship to avoid unfair lies just off the fairway as happened infamously a decade ago at Carnoustie.

Peter Dawson, chief executive of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, said secondary rough will be created a few feet wider on both sides of the fairway.
