OFLATE, the BBC has been including in its news bulletins dire warnings about global warming and a resulting catastrophic rise in sea levels. I presumed that this was prompted by government spin, designed to soften us up for the forthcoming decision to invest in a new generation of power stations.

How wrong could I be. Close inspection of the new BBC weather map makes it alarmingly clear that the rise in sea levels has already started.
