As the clinicians and researchers most closely involved, we welcome the interest The Herald has taken in the project to bring the New Orleans Intervention to Glasgow ("Bad parents told to improve or their children will be adopted", The Herald, April 19).

However, to suggest that the New Orleans Intervention is based on something called "the 'ticking clock' principle" is inaccurate and misleading. The work is based on the principle that intensive help is urgently required if families where maltreatment has occurred are to build safe and nurturing relationships and prevent further harm to children.
