FINANCE Secretary John Swinney faced a storm of criticism last night after scrapping the Glasgow Airport Rail Link in his budget announcement, blaming a squeeze in Westminster spending and an escalation of costs for the cull.
Mr Swinney told Holyrood that the Scottish Government's departmental expenditure, the money over which he has direct control, would reduce by just under 1-per cent in the "first real- terms cut in the Scottish Budget since devolution", saying he had "reluctantly" decided that the GBP395m project had to be abandoned to ensure the government's capital spending was sustainable.See the full content of this document
