I HAVE no idea how many calls in any one day a piano tuner may carry out (David Arthur's letter, June 18) but outpatient appointments amount to thousands. It would be an enormous task to notify everyone 24 to 48 hours before their appointment.

Furthermore, appointments are not now made "many months ahead". The patient is usually informed that they are on the waiting list and a letter is sent to them six weeks before their appointment, giving specific details.
