IN RECENT months I have tried to avoid looking at the Appointments section of the Friday Herald. The number of local- authority jobsworth posts tends to cause my blood pressure to reach unacceptable levels. But the effrontery of Messrs McCabe and Kerr, reported on Friday, beggars belief. In an efficiency drive in the NHS, they propose making absenteeism of nurses an issue to achieve savings of GBP375m.
Against my better judgment, I opened up the Appointments section for that day and, yes, there they were, on page two, adverts for important posts in the NHS. They were as follows: head of policy and planning, head of communications, healthy living strategic development manager, communications manager (up to three full-time posts), policy/planning officer (two full-time posts), executive assistant communications manager.See the full content of this document
