A RECENT survey found that financial services employees contribute only 2.6per cent of their salaries into their pensions, yet many financial services advisers suggest we should be contributing up to 20per cent .
This is worrying for those who have, on the advice of their financial consultant, invested much into pensions. The research has clearly shown that confidence and trust in this particular form of investment is at an all-time low. Between October 2007 and October 2008, workers who diligently contributed to their pensions saw the value of their investments drop by nearly one-third. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Pensions Regulator, David Norgrove, has warned the retirement age in the UK could rise to 70. So where is the best place to save for retirement?
