A CONTROVERSIAL crematorium at a Scots beauty spot was yesterday given the go-ahead by planners.

Councillors voted in favour of the first crematorium in the Borders - on the slopes of the Eildon Hills, near Melrose. The bid by Bristol-based Westerleigh Group attracted fierce opposition, including a 1300-signature petition highlighting traffic issues and the impact on tourism.
