"THE sorry Sundrum tale began 12 years ago" and has yet to end (Letters, May 5). Meanwhile, another listed mansion in South Ayrshire is about to go through the same sorry process of conversion along with a similar number of "enabling development" houses which will compromise, if not destroy, a designated landscape and wildlife site.

Coodham is listed grade A, being of national, historic and architectural importance, so will doubtless attract grant-aid from Historic Scotland. This means that the number of houses proposed to secure the future of Coodham House itself could be more than "the minimum required to unlock the potential of the listed building". The lack of third-party rights of appeal also enters into the Coodham equation.
