THE first power station in the world to generate carbon-free electricity from hydrogen is on the verge of being built in Scotland as part of a project to bring clean energy to consumers.

Four multi-national firms yesterday revealed plans for the pounds- 335m development, which could produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of a quarter of a million UK homes, roughly the same number of households as in the north-east of Scotland.
