THE appointment of a Kirk elder and former chief constable to review the licensing of parades, in an attempt to combat sectarianism, was broadly welcomed yesterday.

Sir John Orr, the former chief constable of Strathclyde police, is to review the procedures for allowing marches in Scotland, said Margaret Curran, the communities minister.
