I CAN only guess that Gordon McNeill (Letters, November 23) has some deep-seated problem with thirtysomething mums. What else could possibly drive him to denigrate the sacrifice of a police officerwho laid down her life serving her community?

The accounts of the tragic incident in Bradford last Friday suggest that Sharon Beshenivsky was fatally wounded seconds after she had left her patrol car. What difference would it have made if the officer concerned had been an unarmed "tough young man"?
