Political Donations

Summary

YOUR report into donations received by political parties over the past quarter seems to take the view that parties receiving large handouts from a few wealthy businessmen and trade unions is somehow a "good thing", but that the SNP receiving a healthy GBP195,635 from hundreds of its members and supporters is to be questioned (November 16). Isn't the latter a sign that the party is in good health and above the corruption that has dogged the London-based parties in recent years? You barely mention the Labourites' GBP3,689,123 income over the same period, other than to say that most of it came from trade unions.

One wonders whether those trade-union members whose money has been blithely handed over to a party fewer and fewer of them vote for, would choose to donate these large sums if they were actually given any say in the matter.
