THE British Retail Consortium is highlighting "worrying" signs of weak consumer confidence and demand ahead of the key Christmas trading period, as its latest figures reveal a sharp deceleration in year-on-year growth in sales value.

In its latest monthly monitor, published today, the BRC says that the total value of retail sales in October was up 1.5% on the same month last year.
