Building work is scheduled to begin on the Glasgow leukaemia centre early next year, after more than (pounds) 2m was raised by an appeal.

Scottish celebrities, including film star Ewan McGregor, right, Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri, racing driver David Coulthard and author J K Rowling, all threw their weight behind the campaign - launched two years ago to help raise money for the creation of the first world-class facility in Scotland to be dedicated to the research of blood cancers.
