The level of pre-school education in Scotland has reached an all- time high, according to figures issued yesterday.

All four-year-olds and 85% of three-year-olds are receiving pre- school education, mainly in nurseries, The figure was disclosed in Scottish Executive statistics which also show that 69% of women with dependent children are working. This represents a slight increase over the past five years, officials said.
