SCOTLAND face an uphill struggle in the Sudirman Cup after going down 3-2 to the USA yesterday in their opening group 3B match in Beijing, writes Doug Gillon.

The injury-hit squad was already 2-0 behind before Susan Hughes took just 13 minutes and dropped only two points as she beat Mangkalikiree Mesinee, but the match was over when Craig Robertson and Andrew Bowman lost 15-9, 15-6 in the men's doubles.
