Summary
Condemnation is easy: most of us have had all the practice we'll ever need. Demanding action isn't so very hard either. When the feeling that something must be done is rational, tolerating the intolerable is beyond stupid. The pathetic alternative is to give up. And where would that leave us?
Suspicious parcels, bullets and bombs in the post, death threats, common assault in public places, domestic violence, communities put in fear, raw hatred and de facto segregation in a democratic society: we see it all. The fact that the supposed motives are banal only makes matters worse.
