PALESTINIANS and Israelis both staged mass protests yesterday aimed at persuading the world court to rule on their side of the dispute about Israel's separation barrier.

In the West Bank and Gaza Strip, thousands of Palestinians responded to Yasser Arafat's call to "make their voices heard" on the first day of the court hearing. Some marchers burned Israeli flags, destroyed fake walls or threw stones at Israeli soldiers.
