A LEADING think tank has declared that the UK's public sector is costing taxpayers GBP58.4bn a year , , almost half of government's income tax take.
The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) analysed official figures released last week and found that the public sector's productivity performance had been even worse than previously reported, dropping 3.4per cent from 1997 to 2007.
