SCOTS are seeking relatively easy lives through jobs in the health service, education and government rather than taking risks as entrepreneurs, according to a leading economist.

David Bell, of Stirling University, said the imbalance was damaging the country's chances of kickstarting its poor economic performance, and Scottish Executive spending plans risked harming ministers' number-one aim of raising growth.
