Ian Bell's piece on Malcolm McLaren brought back high school memories of Punk singles bought and "Stuff the Jubilee' badges worn. However I take issue with his assertion that "there has been no punk legacy to speak of".

Mainstream British pop music may have de-evolved to the level of Simon Cowell-inspired karoake, however the most inspiring band to emerge from the punk movement were neither the Sex Pistols or The Clash but the Mancunian group The Fall. Under Mark E Smith's stern hand they have reflected an ever-changing society since their inception in 1976 and remain as culturally vital now as they were then.
