Summary

ITAPPEARS that New Labour has now made a radical change to the Sermon on the Mount. From now on it is to read: "Blessed are the poor for they shall be trodden on." The prime minister and the chancellor have decided that pensioners will not receive a proper pension until 2012, when many who suffered through the hard times of the 1920s and 1930s and fought the last war will be dead.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Blair will receive a pension of GBP123,000 a year and Brown a pension of GBP53,000, no doubt to equal that of Blair when he becomes the new PM. This was the man who promised to provide as much money as necessary to fight the war in Iraq. Plenty of money to kill; little to help the old and needy. These two men claim to be Christian; I see nothing Christian about their actions. Perhaps this might be a good subject for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland to discuss this week.
