ENCOURAGING people to believe they will be paid to do nothing for 20 years in retirement is a "recipe for economic decline and a waste of resources", pensions consultant and campaigner Dr Ros Altmann said in Edinburgh yesterday.
At a forum on the Pensions Commission report, staged by Scottish Widows and also featuring one of the three commissioners Professor John Hills, Altmann called for a more radical prescription, and said: "Pensions alone cannot solve the pensions crisis . . . Working longer but part-time is part of the solution and much healthier for everybody.
