SCOTLAND has been given renewed hope of reclaiming an automatic place in the Champions League after having risen in UEFA's rankings.

European football's governing body takes a five-year average of how well a nation's clubs have performed in continental competition. That table is then used to decide how many teams each country can enter into Europe, and at what stage they join tournaments.
