PHILIP Green, the tycoon attempting to buy Marks & Spencer, yesterday indicated the retailer had fallen so far behind the competition that it could take him up to 10 years to return it to its prime.

Speaking at a Sunday Times Business Week conference in London, Green said: "M&S is a wonderful brand. It has been poorly run. It has lost its way. I believe it is a business I can fix.
