Summary
The 1707 Act of Union implies the courts and laws of Scotland would remain separate to the rest of the UK with the same "authority and privilege" as they held in the past. That independence has since been the cornerstone of the system, a source of both national and professional pride.
As such, Scotland does not have to follow the decision in England and Wales to introduce so-called "Tesco law" - a move which means law firms would be able to raise capital from outside investors, while banks and supermarkets could offer a full range of solicitors' services.See the full content of this document
