SO, THESE are the depths to which this government has now sunk. No longer able to persuade us with enlightened policies; no longer able to finagle us with spin; it has resorted openly to bribery in an attempt to set doctor against patient. Any doctor who accepts money to alter a diagnosis would be guilty of professional misconduct and liable to be struck off.

The relentless hounding of the sick and disabled does not stop there. So powerful is the government spin machine that the media swallow whole chunks of it unquestioned. There may well be 2.7 million claimants each year for incapacity benefit, but can we please see the numbers of those who actually go on to receive it - 1.4 million? What is more, that number is falling year on year.
