GORDON Murray refers to storage systems in terms of maximum output (Letters, May 9).

A storage capacity of 1 gigawatt is meaningless. Capacity has to be stated in gigawatt hours (GWhr). The pump storage output from Cruachan is 0.4GW but the capacity is such that this output could only be maintained for 22 hours.
