ENVIRONMENTALISTS and recreation groups yesterday claimed to be vindicated in their opposition to the Cairngorm funicular railway after the public purse once again had to save the project.

They had warned that money would have to be thrown at it even after it opened, and yesterday CairnGorm Mountain revealed losses of (pounds) 1.2m for its first full year of operation.
