I READ with interest the article by Stephen Stewart on the "Clash over Merchant City housing plan" (September 15), in which he suggested that the G1 Group plc might have had a change of heart and "now regret applying for permission to open new nightclubs next to existing flats," and hasten to reassure him, if he still suffers under this delusion, that this is not so.

A few years ago, Stefan King's group bought what was originally the Salon Cinema, a Grade-B listed building, in Vinicombe Street, Hillhead, G12. Previously, it was owned by Littlejohn's, who were operating it as a licensed restaurant. Almost immediately in 2001 a refreshment licence was applied for, and granted.
