BSW Timber, Britain's biggest sawmilling business, has recorded its best trading performance in years following a restructuring sparked by its first loss in decades back in 2001.

However, the 156-year-old company, based in the village of Earlston, Berwickshire, warned that the outlook for 2005 is less rosy, amid rising interest rates, and higher energy prices and distribution costs.
