BRITAIN'S dominant service sector expanded for the seventh straight month in November but at a slower pace than in October, dashing hopes of a speedy recovery from the worst economic downturn since the 1930s, a survey showed yesterday.

Research group Markit Economics and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply said the services purchasing managers index fell to 56.6 in November from 56.9 in October. The drop was unexpected and compares with City economists' forecast of a rise to 57.
