Justin Rose has resigned from the European Tour five weeks after being left out of the Ryder Cup team, but he is not facing a two- year ban and is expected to be back as a member next season.

The former Tour No.1, who admits he was "deflated" when told by Colin Montgomerie he was not getting a wild card, has played only three events on this side of the Atlantic all season. Even with two majors and a world championship in America counting towards membership, Rose was only halfway towards the minimum 12 required and there are only seven more to come.
