THERE was an extraordinary moment of emotional intensity and transcendence in the RSNO's concert on Saturday night which underlined, in what I admit is a very personal issue, a quintessential problem with Spanish music, whether authentic, or Spanish culture imagined by others.

That moment occurred in the last of Peter Lieberson's Neruda Songs, a set of love songs performed by mezzo soprano Kelley O'Connor with a meltingly-lovely and haunting accompaniment by Stephane Deneve and the RSNO.
