EDUCATION Secretary Michael Russell dismissed in the most bullish terms last night opposition claims that he had acted inappropriately over school closures in Argyll and Bute.

Mr Russell told the Scottish Parliament that at every stage he had followed ministerial protocol and had "insulated himself" against any inappropriate involvement when, as candidate for the constituency in May, he expressed a view against closures in a leaked email to local SNP councillors.
