CHEAP flights to Europe could be a thing of the past after a landmark ruling yesterday by the European Commission which will force Ryanair to pay back millions of pounds in illegal subsidies.

The Irish airline said it would launch an appeal after it was told that the cut-price rates it received from the Belgian government to operate out of Charleroi airport were illegal.
