THE Scottish Executive increased the amount of funding it handed out in the second quarter to encourage firms to boost employment in Scotland under the Regional Selective Assistance programme by 16% to pounds -21m.

However, with the bulk of the money going to companies based outside Scotland, the latest awards could reignite the controversy about RSA funding possibly subsidising footloose international corporations.
