AS co-chairs of the 2005 World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon"), we feel impelled to write in response to Alison Rowat's article, You wouldn't believe the warp factor (August 6).

The convention was delighted to have the opportunity the week before last to host a press conference in Glasgow to raise awareness of our plans for the event, which will bring more than 4000 people and (pounds) 4m of business to the city in August 2005. This was well attended by the city and the press, who we feel received quite a different impression from the one given in Ms Rowat's article.
