SCOTS will not miss out on university places as a result of an influx of English students escaping top-up tuition fees, it was claimed yesterday.

Despite a 17-per cent rise in English-based applicants wanting to study in Scotland, universities said it would make little difference because the number accepted on courses was always much lower.
