NFU Scotland yesterday stepped up its efforts to have greater f lexibility for f locks affected by scrapie - the brain disease of sheep which has been associated with BSE in cattle and, by implication, variant CJD in humans.

The National Scrapie Plan was introduced in July 2001 with the aim of eradicating the disease in Great Britain over a 10 to 15- year period.
