DARREN CLARKE has had to abandon hope of making the FA Cup final in Cardiff today, to cheer on his beloved Liverpool, after playing himself into second place at The Belfry.

His two-under-par 70 for a halfway aggregate of 136 gave him too late a tee-off time to have a chance of making it. "It's all gone, " he lamented. "Rick Parry [Liverpool's chief executive] got me two tickets in the royal box but I won't be able to use them. It's very disappointing. I wish I had shot 80."
