FEWER criminals will be going to jail in Scotland after Holyrood backed Government plans to scrap prison sentences of three months or less and rejected calls for mandatory sentences for knife crime.

The Government had a majority of just three votes on shorter sentences and two votes on knife crime as MSPs debated the SNP's flagship Criminal Justice and Licensing Bill.
