The appointment of Lucas Papademos as the Prime Minister of Greece and the likely replacement of Silvio Berlusconi by Mario Monti are hardly endorsements for the workings of democracy and the due electoral process in the beleaguered eurozone.
The influence exerted by Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel and the bureaucrats within the corridors of Brussels has prevailed. The pressures applied by the shadowy bond markets to bring about changes in leadership in sovereign countries is a more sinister development.
